OUR STORY
In 2015 our Founder, Becki Wright, lost her bid for city council by just 11 votes—realizing then that many candidates didn’t have the tools they needed to run a successful campaign. Running for political office wasn’t an area that had experienced the innovation that so many other industries enjoyed over the past decade; archaic technology and cumbersome tools kept political campaigns stuck in the past.
Those eleven votes were all it took for Becki to decide that something needed to be done. As a political campaign consultant for both local and statewide campaigns, she continued to see what did and didn’t work—what it took for people to win, and where campaigns fell short. Massive amounts of money and government connections are not accurate requirements for representative government. With so many barriers to entry into political engagement, Becki knew that candidates needed a solution to level the playing field, and an idea was born.
Enter Proximity. With the belief that including more voices at the table will improve our political dialogue, Proximity was formed as a public benefit corporation with the specific purpose of providing tools and resources to improve election literacy, enhance political campaign innovation, and foster equitable access and pathways to civic leadership. Proximity has the tools and is the solution so that good leaders can be great candidates.
